Swissport has strengthened its logistical operations in the Euroairport Basel -Mulhouse -Freburg with the addition of 800 square meters of the new shipping space. The expanded facility responds to increased import volumes and enhances the speed and efficiency of goods treatment services.
To accommodate the growing demand from current transport networks, Swissport has expanded the logistical infrastructure at EuroAirport Basel with an additional 800 square meter charging space – allowing improved capacity and road planning for airlines that already serve the airport, with support targets to reduce CO₂.
In 2024, the company dealt with more than 47,000 tons of goods on the site, confirming the strategic role of Euroairport as a gateway to international commodities – especially medicines. To support this growth by focusing on the most efficient use of current trips, Swissport has increased the capacity, coordinating with French and Swiss customs, carried out simplified operations designed for the unique national bilateral structure of the airport. These measures allow a faster distribution in the last mile and ensure a soft and effective charging treatment.
“It is located in the heart of Europe, at the crossroads of three countries, Euroairport is a major logistical center for global imports in European exports and pharmaceutical preparations from Switzerland,” says Andreas Bahnak, President of Swiss Sports. “As an expert in air freight, we are constantly adapting to our logistical capabilities to meet the demand for excellence and efficiency, while supporting the highest safety and security standards.”
Swissport is also in a good position to meet the increasing demand for temperature -controlled charging. In Euroairport, 64 % of goods activity include exporting temperature -sensitive commodities, especially from the drug industry in Switzerland. The Swissport Pharma Center, which is approved by IATA CEV Pharma, confirms in Basel the company’s commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical logistics. Thanks to the “Cool +Connect” infrastructure, central charges protect the +2 ranges to +8 ° C, while reducing truck movements, cutting the handling times by up to 70 %, and significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.
Swiss’s achievements in Basel reflect a wider global success. In 2024, the company dealt with five million tons of air cargo through 117 air charging centers around the world. Strategic investments in infrastructure and technology greatly contributed to this achievement, including the renovation of the shipping depot in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the opening of a third air freight center in Liege, Belgium, to meet the increasing demand for e -commerce and improvements in “Corridor” in Amsterdam and Lières.
