The Caspian Air Cargo Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan will be the tenth version since its launch in 2006. The event was organized by Euroavia International and hosted by Airferight Silk Way West Airlines. The place will be the center of Baku’s wonderful conference. For the first time, the summit will be arranged in conjunction with the Grand Azerbaijan race – Baku Formula 1 Street Race. The welcoming reception will start on the evening of September 22, one day after the race, to allow our presence to combine format 1 and the Caspian summit if they wish. The conference will be 23-24 September.
What is the story behind the launch of the first Caspian summit in 2006? When Lars Gunnar Kumin, the director of Euroavia International, attended the annual general meeting of Tiia in Istanbul in April 2005, he was contacted by senior executives from Silk Way Airlines, who invited him to come to Baku and discuss whether an event could be created at Airfreight in Azerbaijan. We were pleased to look at this unique opportunity to start something new in one of the most exciting markets in the former Soviet Union. After the initial trip to Baku in May 2005, it was decided to organize the first Caspian Air charging summit in May 2006.
The event company and the hosting company, including the airline in Azerbaijan in general, have evolved greatly since 2006. At the time, Silk Way was a relatively small shipping carrier mainly working on the Elyushin-76 plane. Baku has the ideal site, connecting Europe, Asia and the Middle East. With the improvement of the shipping infrastructure at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport, Silk Way managed to grow, which constantly added more shipping and roads to become a leading freight airline in the world.
The local market in the Caspian region focuses mainly on the goods needed for the oil and gas industry. Local goods are not minimal, but growth depends largely on the development of Baku to a main center of goods that link the Trade Lane in Europe and Asia. Shipping operators in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have benefited from the closure of Russian airspace in recent years.
The idea of adopting the concept of Caspian Air Cargo was not primarily on the views of the local market. The Caspian Summit attracted world leaders in making global air weapons conditions from all over the world since the opening event in 2006. In the first years, there were about 200-250 attendees, but the latest summit in 2023 returned approximately 450 delegates after a four-year period of time due to Covid-19.
The main success factors were a strong and relevant conference program, excellent entertainment in terms of wonderful hall dinner, and above all, the hospitality provided by Silk Way West Airlines. Azerbaijani knows how to entertain and take care of their guests well. That is why most delegates return to the Caspian summit year after year.
The Caspian Air Cargo Summit 2025 summit offers a variety of time themes for airlines, airport displays, or anyone active in supply boxes or supply chain. We will have a strong session with two major guidelines to assess the current market conditions, including Stefan Krikken (DSV), Michael Blaufuss (DHL Global Forwarding) and Soror Basalom from Saudi integrated purchase Bahri.
Other topics will include current turmoil in global trade, e -commerce, global aviation expectations, sustainability, the future of shipping aircraft, and expectations for Central Asia and the Middle East.
One of the most prominent events in the program will be the display of the new international shipping airport project in Silk Way, located within the free economic zone. Managed by SW Affezco, the airport will become a major component in the village of Cargo Way Silk Way, along with the Alat Logistics Center. This integrated logistical platform is designed to provide multimedia transport solutions and support the group’s long -term growth throughout Eurasia.
“Our vision is to mode the new shipping airport as a central power in the future of global shipping logistics,” said Wolfgang Mayer, President of Silk Way West Airlines. “The Caspian Air Cargo Summit is a platform to present this strategic project for the Silk Way Group and interact with global industry leaders who form supply chains from tomorrow.”
