- GEODIS has expanded its fleet in Spain with twelve new high-capacity, environmentally efficient double trailers, bringing the total to eighteen. This strategic investment follows recent legislative changes in Spain that allow double trailers with European units to operate on specific routes without prior authorization.
- Each double trailer can carry up to 72 tons with a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional units.
- The new 640 hp tractor units will serve customers in the paper, steel and automotive sectors, enhancing environmental performance and transportation efficiency. GEODIS emphasizes that this move supports its ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability and operational excellence in the Spanish market.
GEODIS has made a strategic investment in the acquisition of an additional twelve environmentally efficient road vehicles, following recent changes in Spanish legislation liberalizing the use of European standard double trailers on specific routes.
GEODIS is investing in twelve new trailer and tractor units, bringing the total activity of the European road network it operates in Spain to eighteen. The strategy also reinforces GEODIS’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and operational excellence in the Spanish market.
The new tractor units have a power output of 640 hp, and are powerful enough to tow two double trailers with an overall length of 32 meters and carrying a payload of up to 72 tons. The net reduction in CO2 emissions compared to equivalent conventional trailer units is more than 30%.
GEODIS will deploy these double trailers to serve customers in the paper, steel and automotive industries, where growing demand for high-capacity transportation has been identified. The environmental benefits are great.
Commenting on the introduction of the new trailers into the GEODIS fleet in Spain, Marc Follett, Executive Vice President of GEODIS’s European Road Network activity, said: “In addition to the welcome beneficial impact on the environment of their use, with significant reductions in CO2 emissions, the double trailer allows increased productivity, with one tractor and one driver pulling two semi-trailers.”
Mark Follett added: “The cost optimization and operational efficiency improvements achieved will bring significant benefits to our Spanish customers.”
Following the decision issued on October 21 by Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), it is now permissible to operate double trailers without prior authorization, provided that they meet specific technical requirements and remain within a specific road network. Naturally, GEODIS’ operation of the trailers will comply, and also ensure that they are equipped with safety features such as air suspension, blind spot detection, lane keeping systems, emergency braking and electronic stability control.
