DHL Global Forwarding, the pioneering international provider of air freight services, ocean and roads, has succeeded in transferring the world’s first mobile clinic to children to Burundi. This prominent logistical initiative will help bridge the critical health care gap in the region. In partnership with German Ngo Idnerzen, the mobile clinic will provide life -saving cardiovascular surgeries for children with congenital heart disease (CHD).
About 90 percent of children in Africa who suffer from CHD lack the necessary medical care, which contributes to high death rates. Mohki, Heart Mobile Clinic, is designed to treat this by providing specialized treatment for disadvantaged communities. The elbow consists of fourteen containers 20 feet equipped with operating theaters, intensive care unit, medical supplies, equipment, solar panels and other basic infrastructure to enable continuous and reliable operations. After a successful mission in El Salvador last year, where the clinic team performed 24 heart surgeries, volunteer medical experts will cooperate with local professionals in Burundi to provide surgeries to save life and enhance the health care capacity of children.
“This partnership with Kinderherzen reflects our commitment to linking people and improving lives,” says Amadou Diallo, CEO of Dhl Global Forwarding East & Africa.
“By using our logistical experience and global networks, we guarantee that advanced healthcare services reach societies where they are more needed, which enables healthy systems to provide life -saving medical care for children.”
The Mohki team will perform life -saving surgeries over a period of two and a half weeks, which include two weeks of procedures followed by five days of care after surgery. After surgery, children will receive medical attention in the intensive care unit in Mohki and the nursing wing before they are emptied or transferred to the mother and child center at Kamenges Hospital. This task represents the first phase of the work of Mukki in Burundi, with an additional task plan, including the next stage in June 2025.
Many African countries face large gaps in the experience of heart surgery and medical facilities. The mohki mobile facility provides both basic medical care and long -term healthcare training programs to enhance local health care infrastructure. The clinic will work as a transition facility for at least one year until the permanent heart center is fully equipped. By giving priority to sustainable development, this initiative supports permanent improvements in childcare.
“Without reaching heart surgery in children, many children with birth defects in Burundi have no chance to survive. This mobile type is an opportunity to save lives. Some Central African countries, especially Burundi, cannot have a celebration of the form that can save this project. Yorg Gatnnoar, Managing Director of Kindererzen.
This initiative of its kind in Africa is part of a broader task to enhance access to critical children’s health care in remote and disadvantaged areas. Using the extensive logistics network in DHL, the safe and safe mohki transfer to Burundi ensures that life -saving medical care reaches those who need it more. Other African countries have already expressed the need for specialized health care in the heart, highlighting the possibility of the extension of its influence throughout the region in the coming years.
