At the tumultuous center at Hong Kong International Airport, driving to digitization and non -carbons air charging is not just a logo. For Cathay Cargo, it is a plan under direct development. With independent electrical tractors now moving from the rebellion from aircraft to cold dolls and monitoring of Amnesty International Lithium Ion battery shipments in the actual time, the operator goes beyond the manufacture of industry to a measurable transformation.
But as Mark WhatsApp tells her, the chief operating official at the Cathai shipping station, none of this progress comes without checking. He talked about a project to track the independent station, and confirms, “We will not put it on the full production of the station until we are completely sure that it is completely safe for our people.”
What distinguishes Cathay Cargo Terminal experiences from the range. Unlike many airport players who try independent cars in jobs, the Cathay Cargo Station focused on cases of “original from finish to end”. This means that the goods are transported not only from the bomb to the terminal entrance, but directly to specific delivery points within the building.
“We had the first experimental race in March from inside the shipping station to the plane, and last week we completed the first operation that involves a damageable charge – frozen seafood – independently held at the shipping station using a dedicated cold international,” says WhatsApp.
It is more than just a comfort feature. “One of the big features is sustainability, because electric tractors use less emissions than traditional tractors,” WhatsApp notes. To date, the team conducted more than 20 experiences, including two with live shipments.
However, it is fast in relieving enthusiasm with realism. Efficiency gains are still evaluated. “It is a pilot program at the present time,” he says. “With regard to efficiency, we are still working through all the details. Safety is priority, and we will only expand use once we are in a suitable place to relieve risk.
What people cannot see
Where self -mobility deals, artificial intelligence has become the second group of Cathay Carginal. The station merged artificial intelligence with the CCTV network through a technology partner called Intenseye, using the actual time of the mark on the invisible risks of human spots.
“It raises our safety management system and risk reports so that we can” see the unseen, “said Watts. “Examples include individuals who do not follow pedestrian corridors, or not wear appropriate safety equipment or very close vehicles from each other. For some scenarios such as discovering work from length without harnessing safety, we also get actual time alerts so that we can check our safety protocols immediately.”
Security is another limits. AI-AI prepared cameras can now select unattended goods in banned areas. Meanwhile, 100 percent of X -ray machines at the station are equipped with trained AI units specifically to detect Li -Eun batteries. “It gives us alerts in an actual time if it seems that something has been mistaken or not announced,” says Watts.
From pledges to plastic
Cathay Cargo Terminal has committed to net net carbon emissions by 2050, with a temporary goal consisting of 55 percent by 2035 (against the 2018 baseline). But instead of prose obligations, WhatsApp determines an organized approach of three most important: carbon, waste and plastic.
To reduce emissions, the station explores independent electric tractors and adopts HVO fuel (processed vegetable oil) where a complete electrical is not used yet. “There is still a lot of work to do it to get there,” Watts admits.
On waste, the facility recycles more than 50 percent of its production. A local partnership in China has made polystyrene – which is seen as non -operational – undesirable, thanks to the redesigned storage and assembly systems. “It was a very difficult substance for recycling,” says Watts. “But we were able to find the right path.”
The real lead is the plastic circular. The peripheral recycles 100 percent of the removable plastic charging cover leaves from incoming charges, and the materials are used to manufacture new leaves.
“Our team challenged last year to overcome industry,” explains Watts. “We are still looking to know if we can increase this number over time without losing the ability to stretch or waterproofing needed to keep the goods safe.”
Data in, paper outside
Cathay Cargo Terminal is not just a cheerful Amnesty International, but also deals with papers that define the analog past of shipping. Watts describes a operating repair procedure for each of the external documents flows and extrusion.
The station was the first in Hong Kong, which supports E-AWB, which is now used in more than 90 percent of shipments. But real progress is visible in the truck driver’s experience. “We have participated in developing the ESRF,” says Watts, who works alongside the Hong Kong Airport Authority, “says WhatsApp, which works alongside the Hong Kong Airport Authority. “Now when truck drivers come to capture goods, they no longer need to go to the customer center to check identity, leaves or payments. They can do everything using their mobile phone.”
The system includes biometric authentication and QR survey. “Truck drivers are directed automatically to the right truck cage, where they can pick up their charges and go,” he says. Within a year, the system has achieved approximately 70 percent accreditation. “We also have an ambition to fully carefully go at the shipping station by the end of 2026.”
Scale
The presence of 2.7 million tons annually and currently treated about 1.6 million, the expansion is not a short -term priority. Instead, WhatsApp asserts specialization.
“We are focusing on expanding the ability on different types of special goods,” he says. The most prominent investment is the new drug processing center, and it is now the largest dedicated drug room at Hong Kong International Airport. “We want to keep our site as the leading processor for special shipping solutions.”
Another field of growth is multimedia integration, especially with the Great Gulf region (GBA). Cathay Cargo Terminal supports the Hong Kong International Airport Park in Dongwan, allowing customs declaration procedures, scanning, and procedures in the original admission in China the main righteousness before being charged to Hkiaiaramac for the jar. “This project can help improve the total efficiency of GBA charging,” Watts said, describing it as a “great opportunity to grow.”
While the industry continues to deal with a lack of talent, WhatsApp acknowledges the challenge of attracting younger workers to logistical services, especially for manual roles. “One of the things we focus a lot is to communicate with young people,” he says. “We want to show young people that goods and logistical services are a truly exciting industry.”
