
Joachim von Winning is the manager of freight partnerships at Frankfurt Airport, where he has brought 25 years of experience throughout the industry, including land handling, real estate, retail trade, food, beverages and air freight. Throughout his career, he held major roles, especially the position of senior trading officials at Cairo Airport during the Arab Spring and spent eight years as CEO of the Air Shipping Society in Frankfurt.
Since 2023, Von’s victory focused on enhancing industry cooperation and strengthening the Frankfurt site as a leading global charging center. He holds MA in logistics services, from Mannheim University and Master of Management
How did you enter the terms of the tendons/logistics services?
After studying logistical services as a person and served in the AIESEC German Council, the International Student Organization, it was clear that my career would be in international logistics. From southwestern Germany, sea shipping was not natural, so flying was the logical option.
What is the quote that echoed with you more?
It is not a historical quote, but I recently heard “groups prefer their members”, which explains many things.
What is the best advice you received ever?
“Estr Schlucen, Dann Lachen” (swallow first, then laugh).
What are the most adventurous things you have ever?
Parachute jumping during the training period in South Africa.
If you can have dinner with any three people, they live or dead, who will be and why?
Friedrich von Hayek to see him in the economy, Adam Smith because of his founding work in economic theory, and Margot Ruby because of her “wonderful stories of the film industry” (do not tell my girlfriend)
What is the thing that we do not know about you from your CV?
I love Scottish whiskey and twice a year, host a whiskey evening with a friend, as I also cook with whiskey.
What hobby did you always want to try but never wandered?
I have always wanted to complete the umbrella jumping certificate. I started in South Africa, but I couldn’t finish because my training period has ended.
If you have not followed a profession in the air field, what is the other field you wanted to go to?
I wanted to go to photography. Although I was ambitious, I lacked talent.
What are your unforgettable moments in the air freight industry?
When a dear friend and an integral part of our community were diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. The entire society met with support, and organized a airport writing campaign for the national bone marrow database. The first person to call me to provide his support was our customs officer.
What is the function of your dreams as a child?
When I was a child, my dream function was to be connected to the island railway on Borkum. What is the biggest change I saw in the industry? How Frankfurt’s air community has turned from air cargo from a segmented group to a real coherent society.
What is the most strange thing that you have ever charged?
At the beginning of my career, FedEX moved a whale via Frankfurt Airport. I have faced many carrots that are confusing the mind since then, but nothing then exceeded the whale.
What is the tanna word that you hate secretly?
It was “Blockchain”, but it is now “e -commerce”.

Window seat.
What is the best work lesson you learned in the difficult way?
Choose your boss wisely.
If you can switch jobs with anyone for one day, then who will be?
Luxurious travel blogger. I like to explore strange destinations and share these experiences with a wide audience, but I prefer if someone else writes the travel blog!
What are the three elements that you will bring to a desert island?
My partner (although I think it will object to it as an element), the survival group, and the reader of an electronic book fully loaded with a solar plate charger. Tea or coffee? It is used to be tea, and now is coffee.
What is your television program or the guilty fun movie?
“Love is actually.” The opening sequences and closure resonate with the reason for our work work, and the experience of this magic is made every day on my way to and from the office.
