After six years of leading the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) through transformation and turmoil, Stephen Polmans concluded his final forum as President with characteristic humour, honesty and a reminder that leadership in air cargo is always a team sport.
“We have the best team in the world,” Polmans said. “The Board has been a great support and driver of TIACA. We rebuilt governance so that every region and every sector has a voice, and since then we have never struggled to participate – just for time, because the discussions have become richer and more demanding.”
Under his tenure, TIACA has reshaped itself from a traditional association into what he described as a “private industry platform” – representing freight forwarders, handlers, airports, airlines and digital innovators under one roof. The comprehensive overhaul of regulations and governance frameworks has ensured inclusivity that reflects the increasing diversity of the industry.
